The SGR Team

Steve Gray

I enjoy being on the work site and running the projects on a daily basis. The best part of my job is the daily interaction with my clients. Throughout the process I am always the first person in and the last person out. I love the challenges that come with home renovations. My goal is always to make whatever we have worked on look like it’s been there forever.

Since childhood, I’ve been a go-getter so I welcome challenges. In my late teens, I began a professional career in construction and earned my way into leadership positions along the way. While I’ve always kept my job sites clean, I never shy away from getting my hands dirty. In 2005, I started Steve Gray Renovations, which quickly became a top choice for high-end renovation in Greater Indianapolis. With a desire to create a positive association of the remodeling industry for homeowners, I’ve provided helpful insight to media outlets like, Money Magazine, and more.

I love my job, but nothing is more important than my family. My wife Deanna and I oversee the day-to-day operations of SGR, but we’re most proud of being parents to two adventurous and talented children. We have also enjoyed renovating our own home, a 1959 mid-century modern gem etc.

Steve Gray Embraces Any Challenge

Deanna Gray
Director of Operations

I started my career in the travel industry, working for a tour operator where I was responsible for arranging accommodations, transportation, and entertainment for major sporting events. From there I entered into the medical billing world. When Steve and I began discussing launching our company, it seemed logical that I handle the office side of things. Who better to look after our business than those most invested?

I know that family businesses do not always run smoothly, but I love working with Steve! We share the same work ethic and commitment to quality, and we enjoy the time we spend together working toward a common goal. Our company is really a part of our family. Our kids have grown up watching exactly how we work and what it involves – I believe it has shown them integrity in action.

Seeing the projects transform from idea to reality is so fun. I do not see myself as a creative person, nor am I good at visualizing the end result. The before and after pictures from our projects always leave me stunned – our craftsmen are amazing!

It is very satisfying to be a part of bringing a vision or dream to life. I feel very fortunate that our team gets to be a part of improving our clients’ lives.

Outside of work, I love spending time in Sanibel Island, FL. I love to travel, but I also love to be home.

I grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and played post-high school baseball. Sports took me to five different states over a five-year span, which made me really appreciate where I came from. Baseball also guided my journey and opened many doors and opportunities that may not have been available if I had just stayed at home. With all of that being said, all of the traveling made Indy feels more and more like home again. When I got the opportunity to come work for my father, it offered me an exciting chance to move back close to family and to work alongside them!

Having a background in sports means I am very competitive. While everything may not be about competing in the renovation industry, it is about staying ahead through a clear plan, attention to detail, and good communication. I also like being a teammate. These values were embedded in me by my parents growing up, but when I went to college and heard many of my coaches preaching similar philosophies, it opened my eyes to how closely these two paths relate to each other, even though on the surface they may not seem to at all.

Outside I work I like to hang out with friends, look for new ideas for my own home, and watch any type of sports – Basketball, baseball, football, racing, you name it. I also like to unwind after work by either watching a movie or playing video games online with friends.
