Our clients had spent the last 25+ years raising a family in a large home in Indianapolis. Once the kids were launched, they felt it was time to move to a smaller space that still had a lovely water view. They found a home in Fishers with the perfect lake location, but not the perfect interior. For the first time in their lives, they decided to undertake a remodeling project just for them. They wanted to make their new home exactly what they envisioned for this stage of their lives. Along with Hoskins Interior Design, we helped them achieve that dream.

We completed a first-floor redesign that worked within the existing footprint. The home is located in a zero-lot line community, so there was no room to build out. The project included a kitchen remodel, new flooring throughout out the whole first floor, as well as a hearth room, great room, half bath, and a full master bath renovation. Our clients brought little furniture with them from their previous home, relying on Hoskins to help them find everything new.

Kitchen Remodeling

The existing kitchen had an island with a cooktop, a peninsula and a wall of small windows over the periphery cabinetry.

The kitchen remodel built upon the existing footprint, but with a new configuration that suited how our clients wanted to use the space. We removed the small windows and placed a range and hood on that wall, making this area the focal point when one enters the kitchen area. The island was redesigned to serve as one large workspace with a built-in microwave.

Like many existing homes, we had to spend a lot of time prepping the kitchen for its new cabinetry and appliances. Plumb, smooth walls mean easier cabinet installation. Moving electrical and venting to new locations means better functionality and a cleaner look. Once we installed the semi-custom cabinetry, we added crown molding and other architectural details to help it blend with the rest of the home. The 5” wide oak flooring was finished onsite and installed throughout the first floor where new carpet or tile was not called for.

Hearth Room Remodeling

Adjacent to the kitchen is a small dining area that leads to a lovely hearth room with lots of windows. In this space we continued the crown molding and remodeled the angled fireplace façade. The new stonework complemented the dark flooring and added some visual warmth to the grey and white color palette. The simple stone mantel follows the clean lines of the rest of the space.

Great Room Remodel

The new first floor design called for opening the small entryway from the hearth room to the great room to take advantage of the stunning lake views. This space received a complete refresh including a fireplace remodel that used the same stone as the hearth room piece, but with more moldings to add a formal look. We kept the boxes from the existing shelving on either side of the fireplace but added new trim, doors and paint. Crown molding was brought into this space as well.

Staircase Wainscoting

The home boasted a gorgeous radius staircase leading to the lower level and served as a focal point from the entryway of the home. To elevate the impact and elegance, we added molding along the entire wall

The small half bath was given a complete redesign as well, with wainscoting, a new vanity, mirror, hardware, toilet, and flooring.

Master Bath Remodeling

The master suite is located on the main floor and was part of the remodeling project. The bedroom received new floors and stepped crown molding, but the master bath was completely redesigned. Using the same footprint, we removed the existing glass block wall and a small linen closet and added a larger vanity. The architectural details that elevate the design of a home come with a lot of planning from the building side. Setting electrical and plumbing in the exact spot needed before any of the cabinetry, hardware, lighting and moldings arrive takes careful measuring and exacting attention to detail. We think the beautiful end result is worth it though – and so do our clients.

The next phase of this remodeling project will be the basement, so stay tuned!
