Here is a behind-the-scenes look at how we created a staircase inspired by a photo our client found online. They loved the style and wanted to incorporate it into their own custom renovation.

We start the demolition phase by removing the existing stair treads.

Here, we’re building a substantial skirt board for the new staircase.

After installing the skirt board and risers, the new staircase starts to take shape.

Handrail bracket mock-ups are hand-built with wood, then test-fitted on the staircase posts.

Once the brackets and handrails are perfect, stainless steel brackets are custom-made and installed.

Applying stain to the maple posts will create beautiful contrast (the brackets are carefully taped off).

After our final touch-up and cable adjustments, the staircase becomes a work of art.

Here’s the final staircase! See how the handrails, cables and posts continue down to the basement? When we renovate, we think beyond what the eye sees from one vantage point. We imagine how to make elements of our remodels work well on multiple levels, behind the drywall, under the floor and every little detail in between.
