A renovation with soul, smarts, and serious style. This is what mid-century magic looks like in the modern day.

The Challenge: Transforming a small, storage-free 1950s bathroom—with cramped sinks, a tiny shower, and awkward layout—into a functional, modern space without losing its mid-century character.

Our clients have thoughtfully updated their Mid-Century home over the years to bring in modern comforts, and the renovation of the main bathroom is the latest chapter in that transformation. We reimagined the layout by borrowing space from the bedroom, incorporated a custom walnut vanity, and installed linen closets for smart storage. Other notables include adding a curbless glass shower that opens up the room, a private patio that brings a touch of outdoor living from a once-greenhouse doorway, and embracing light and enhancing the flow, which seals the deal. With the expertise of our partners, this dated space is now a bright, practical, and stylish retreat that feels like it was made for today – because it was.

Our remodeling goals:

  • Increase the size and functionality of the bathroom
  • Larger shower
  • Add storage
  • Create warm, cozy, Zen feel
  • Include mid-century inspired details and finishes (check out our video for even more details)

The Solution: Rethink the flow of the space, add thoughtful storage, and let mid-century charm meet modern living.

Expanding the Fooprint

Transforming this 1950s bathroom took thoughtful steps that solved old design challenges while adding contemporary comfort and space. We borrowed space from the bedroom to reimagine the bath, creating room for a spacious shower, an expanded vanity, and the luxury of a dedicated linen closet.

A curb-less glass shower was custom made to open the room and a private patio, incorporating a touch of outdoor living from a once greenhouse doorway.

A custom walnut vanity was inspired by an old Broyhill Brasilia dresser, merged with a linen closet concept.  We really enjoy taking a concept and bringing it to life. We love a challenge!

Deep rich tile colors, retro Terrazzo tile, simple wall color and speakers playing spa music helped give this bathroom the feel our clients wanted.

Standout Details and Expertise

The bathroom’s new focal points are all about simplicity and function: a curb-less glass shower that flows seamlessly from the floor with a hidden linear drain, and a single oversized sink set in a custom walnut vanity. Together, they transform the space into an open retreat with generous counter space, sleek lines, excellent lighting, and everyday ease. The results are exactly what our client wanted. Along with the expertise of our partners, we turned a dated space into a bright, practical, and stylish retreat that feels like it was made for today – because it was.

Since part of the bedroom was reallocated to enlarge the bath, we took the opportunity to refresh that space as well. Staying true to the home’s 1950s roots, we recreated a makeup area with walnut cabinetry, integrated lighting, and a marble top carried over from a previous update. This thoughtful design choice creates a seamless connection between the two rooms.
