More Please | An Expanded Kitchen by SGR
Looking at the big picture is a personal passion for Steve Gray Renovations. Our goal is always making sure the new design flows with the existing. We make sure the renovation transitions into the existing areas of the home.
The clients for this project had a great home but lacked kitchen space. With a large family, the goal was to open up the space and update the look. With an existing pool in the backyard, it didn’t give us a whole lot of space to build it out. We presented two plan options. The clients chose what they liked from each and we created a final plan that incorporated the features from both plans into their dream plan.
We added two feet eight inches to the back of the house, and it created an entire new spacious floor plan. We also added a seven foot wide window above the sink to bring in great natural light, and to give them a great panoramic view into their backyard, which they previously did not have.
The design allowed us to relocate the appliances to give a good flow. New cabinet configuration topped with granite provides enough space to eat at the counter. A butler’s pantry gives plenty of storage. Lighting was also added to compliment the new space. Flooring issues were addressed, and what previously was multiple surfaces, now has one great looking surface with no transitions. The exciting part for us is with the limitation in the backyard, the small extension out the back added what feels like 10 feet. It really opened up the space!
We took the entire home in account when planning and carrying out this project. We created a larger opening from the dining room to the kitchen and opened the hearth room to the kitchen area, creating an open feel for the entire area. Although we remodeled the kitchen, the effect was felt thru the entire main level.
Kitchens are such a great way to update your home and make it more functional and inviting for families. So much time is spent in this area that small changes can really have a huge impact the entire home.
While we were there finishing the project, the clients 4-year old, who we call “Speedy” was having a blast running around the new space. It’s always satisfying to see how a renovated space actually works for our clients as well as future track stars!
